The CNTC offers seven absolute premieres, one work by Shakespeare and another by Toni Servillo for the 24-25 season

The National Classical Theater Company (CNTC) has presented this Tuesday the new programming for the 2024-2025 season, made up of a total of 13 montages,of which seven are absolute premieres,six being self-produced and four in co-production, and among which the work stands out ‘The two gentlemen of Verona’,by William Shakespeare, or the Italian obra ‘Three ways not to die’ (Three ways not to die) by the actor Toni Servillo.

This was announced by the director of the CNTC, Lluís Homar, and the general director of the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), Paz Santa Cecilia, at the presentation event, held at the Teatro de la Comedia ( Madrid). The new season of the CNTC has been presented under the motto ‘The joy of El Clásico’ because, as Lluís Homar has assured, Joy “is not only a sensitive activity, but also requires ideological activation.”

The director of the CNTC has claimed that theaters are spaces where people can live together “in difference, discrepancy and respect.” “We are in a world that is increasingly polarized ideologically and economically. However, theaters serve to coexist in difference, discrepancy and respect. If they serve that purpose, to jointly applaud diverse points of view and life options, to cement a free and respectful society in its discrepancies, we will continue to provide culture with its integrative power and its ability to bring us closer to joy,” he stated.

The opening of the season will be for the play ‘The great theater of the world’, by Calderón de la Barca, under the direction of Lluís Homar, which will premiere on October 3 and run until November 24. A month before it will premiere at the Teatro Clásico de Almagro.

Among the scheduled shows, the work also stands out ‘The two gentlemen of Verona’by Shakespeare, directed by the British playwright Declan Donnellan which will be performed from April 10 to May 25, 2025; the work ‘Don Gil of the green tights‘, by Tirso de Molina, and directed by Sarah Kane and which will be staged from February 14 to March 28, 2025; ‘The lady signa’ will be performed in a single performance on April 14 and is a production of deaf actors, created from ‘La dama Boba’ by Lope de Vega and which has Ángela Ibáñez as director; either ‘Anti’ by Lope de Vega, Agustín de Rojas, María de Zayas and María Díaz, which will premiere on December 20, 2024 until January 5.

All these works will be seen in the Main Room of the CNTC, as will the work ‘Three ways not to die’which will be directed and starring Toni Servillo, an Italian actor known for his roles in ‘Gomorrah’, ‘It Was the Hand of God’ or ‘The Great Beauty’, who will recite texts by Dante, Baudelaire and Greek classics.

In addition, the Sala Tirso de Molina will host the premieres of ‘Strength’by Lucía Carballal, from October 4 to 20; ‘The crying beaver’, from the Cabosanroque group, from October 31 to November 17; the videogame ‘The great theater of the world’, which addresses situations from the original work by Calderón de la Barca, but interacting from a menu of actions that, through the mobile phone, will allow the viewer to become part of the text; the pedagogical project ‘The accommodation’based on texts by Agustín Moreto, María de Zayas and Lope de Vega, from January 8 to 12, 2025 and from April 8 to May 18; ‘Tirant Lo Blanc’by Màrius Serra based on Joanot Martorell’s classic, from January 16 to 26; ‘The small changes’, by Vanessa Espín, from March 13 to 30; and finally ‘Between rhymes and banks’from May 29 to June 8, and which will previously premiere in Montevideo (Uruguay).

Likewise, the new season hosts off-site ‘The lovers of Verona’, from the text ‘Castelvines and Monteses’ of Lope de Vega and the text ‘Romeo and Juliet’by Piotr Tchaikovsky, which will be performed at the National Auditorium on March 1 and 2.

The productions will tour Spain and will pass through cities such as Gijón, Valencia, Barcelona, ​​Palencia, Ourense, Alicante, Bilbao, Málaga, Las Palmas or Granada, among others.
