“A Quiet Place: Day One” in cinemas: The silence after the scream

All this woman was missing was an invasion from outer space. At the beginning of “A Quiet Place: Day One”, New York writer Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) is sitting in a self-help group in a hospice and reciting her latest poem to her fellow dying people, which could best be titled “An Ode to Bad Moods”. Her carer Reuben wants to distract her, but Sam has given up on life; she is only interested in morphine patches and her patient cat Frodo, who she always carries around with her. When Reuben lures her on a day trip to Manhattan under the pretense of false entertainment, she quickly stumbles out of the puppet theater with Frodo in his arms. Reuben soon catches her again and the trip is canceled, but Sam wants pizza first because it would probably be the last of her life. You can already see meteorites exploding in the sky, from which huge, spider-like body-snatchers rain down on the exploding city.
