The Royal Collections Gallery celebrates one year with more than 600,000 visitors

The Gallery of the Royal Collections This Friday, June 28, it has completed one year since its launch, providing visitor figures – a total of 608.159 personas– until it became the second most visited monument of National Heritage, only behind the Royal Palace of Madrid, and the fourth museum in Madrid

“The new National Heritage Museum opened its doors with the aim of bringing together five centuries of royal collecting Weaving the history of Spain with the richness and artistic diversity of the pieces preserved by the institution“, explained the National Heritage, also highlighting the “satisfaction” of the visitors.

According to data obtained from the latest visitor survey, The average satisfaction of those who visit the Gallery is 4.9 out of 5. Furthermore, the public has a heterogeneous profile – 57% are female and 43% male – and 6% of visitors are repeat visitors.

62% come from Spain and 38% are of foreign origin (mainly the United States, Italy and Mexico). As for nationals, the majority are from Madrid (41%) although the figures from Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community are also representative. Finally, the majority age group is between 41 and 50 years old (23%) and 32% of visitors are under 40.

The director of the museum, Leticia Ruiz, celebrated in statements to Europa Press having “met practically all expectations”, alluding to the “quality index” reported by visitors, something they do not want to “lose”.

“Practically all expectations have been met, because they are not only the exact number of visitors, which is sometimes too hackneyed information. “We would like to have more visitors, yes, but it is difficult to have more visitors and the quality that we have achieved.”he has indicated.

For her part, the president of National Heritage, Ana de la Cueva, has described this year as “very intense” and has been “proud” of what has been achieved. “It is a living museum where you can enjoy art and discover history and to which you always want to return,” she noted.

In its first year, the Gallery has received awards such as the Time Out award for ‘Best opening of the year’of the National Geographic as a ‘Place of Cultural Interest’ or that of CERMI for its universal accessibility.

Events such as the first meeting of the Spanish presidency of the European Union or the visit of the Royal Family on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of King Felipe VI have helped to give it visibility. This year, the Gallery has consolidated its educational program, with various workshops, and has begun to receive visits from schools.

It has also developed a cultural program that has included conferences, technical conferences and round tables. In addition, he has launched the “The Invited Work” program, with the exhibition of the portrait of Philip II by Antonio Moro from the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao.

This week, the virginal by Hans Bos from 1578 was temporarily installed in the display cases on the Habsburg floor, and will later return to Tordesillas with a renovated museum installation. In addition, three works of contemporary art have been incorporated into the Gallery.
