Neighbors of Guerrero celebrate 150 years of their neighborhood with a cultural festival

The emblematic Guerrero neighborhood, located in the center of Mexico City, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding. As part of the celebration, today a festival will be held with cultural, artistic and civic activities, in which residents of the area were involved.

The purpose is to celebrate the great cultural and historical wealth of this colony, whose origins date back to pre-Hispanic times, as it was a territory between Mexico-Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco, then called the Cuepopan neighborhood. It was not until the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century that this region took the form we know today, after a long urban and social process.

As part of the festivities, neighbors, local markets, and numerous cultural venues will participate, such as the Kaluz museums, the National Stamp Museum, the Franz Mayer Museum, the San Fernando Pantheon, and the Tlatelolco-UNAM Cultural Center.

Civil organizations such as La Nana, Laboratorio Urbano de Arte Comprometido, Casa Rivas Mercado, Barrio Warrior Colectivo AC, the community organization Comunidad Nueva, the Reintegra Foundation, RedLab Laboratory for Cultural Management and Engagement, the associations Bordearte Habitat Urbano, CoRe Cities Liveable and Friendly, and Laboratorios de Paz also joined in.

Among the scheduled activities includes a Reinauguration Caravan, in which a recreation of the founding of the colony in 1874 and the characterization of historical figures will be carried out, including Lerdo de Tejada, played by members of the group Cosmopolitas, who, Together with organizations, museums and organizing groups, they will tour the main streets of Guerrero.

A commemorative plaque will also be unveiled by residents of the Lerdo 132 property and local authorities, and a civic event will be held in the Plaza de los Ángeles, with the participation of students from technical secondary schools 14 and 23.

On the other hand, there will be a Cultural Tanda, which will consist of barter spaces, musical and artistic numbers and a catwalk. body paintas well as workshops on engraving, printing, making a time capsule and stamp albums, and collecting memories of the colony. These spaces will be open to residents of the colony and surrounding areas free of charge.

The activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in representative places, such as the Santa Veracruz and Ángeles squares, as well as the streets of Héroes, Zarco, Soto, Lerdo and Camelia.
