Venice Film Festival honours Sigourney Weaver for her career

The American actress Sigourney Weaver, famous in particular for her role in the saga Alienwill receive an honorary Golden Lion for his entire career at the 81st Venice Film Festival, organizers announced Friday. “An actress of the caliber of Sigourney Weaver has few rivals”said the festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, in a statement.

Sigourney Weaver honored for building bridges “between the most sophisticated art-house cinema and films that interact with the audience in a frank and original way, while remaining true to itself”he added.

The actress will receive the Golden Lion for her career at the Venice Film Festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 7. “This award is a privilege I share with all the directors and collaborators I have worked with over the years. I proudly accept this recognition, which also celebrates all those who have contributed to bringing these films to life.”she said.

The 74-year-old actress, who has already won two Golden Globes and a Grammy Award, rose to fame as Ellen Ripley in the sci-fi film Alien by Ridley Scott, released in 1979. She then appeared in Alien in James Cameron’s 1986 film – which earned him his first Oscar nomination – and then in two other films in the franchise, as well as in the blockbusters Avatar et Ghostbusters.
