Victoria and Albert Museum announces free Taylor Swift exhibition

Last February, Swifties were delighted to learn that the Victoria and Albert Museum in London was recruiting a fan of the American star to “rejuvenate its audience”. A few months later, the institution announced the event About Taylor Swift – Songbook Trail, relay The Guardian. A free exhibition that will open its doors on July 27, a few weeks before the star’s five concerts planned for August in the British capital, as part of her triumphant The Eras Tour.

Costumes, song lyrics, music videos, instruments, awards and storyboards… Until September 8, the London museum will exhibit new objects evoking his childhood and his artistic heritage. “We are delighted to be able to showcase a range of iconic costumes worn by Taylor Swiftsaid Kate Bailey, the museum’s senior curator. Taylor Swift’s songs, like objects, tell stories, often drawn from art, history and literature. We hope this theatrical journey through the museum will encourage curious visitors to discover more about the singer and her creativity.”

Personal archives

The tour is divided into 13 stages, each highlighting a particular era in Taylor Swift’s musical career and writing, according to the museum’s website. Among the costumes and accessories drawn from the star’s personal archives are custom cowboy boots worn during her concerts as a country singer in 2007 and the black dress with shoulders covered in imposing ruffles worn in the music video for the title Fortnight from his recent album The Tortured Poets Department.

As part of her mammoth tour, Taylor Swift kicked off the London leg of her tour on June 21 for three dates, hosting Prince William, who was celebrating his 42nd birthday, before returning to the capital from August 15 to 20. The Mayor of London’s office estimated that the London tour’s shows would generate £300 million (€355 million) for the city’s economy. Several murals dedicated to Taylor Swift, as well as a special tube map, with stations named after songs, were created to mark her tour.

His three and a quarter hour, millimeter-perfect show retraces the eleven albums (since Taylor Swift in 2006) which propelled her from rising star of American country to the biggest international pop star, with 110 million monthly listeners on Spotify (compared to 70 for Beyoncé or Dua Lipa).
