Chronicles from the Abyss of Wrong Loves

A book dedicated to the sentimental obsessions and pathologically toxic relationships that make you lose vital energy, but which you come across at least once in your life. It also happened to Roberto Emanuelli (he writes it in the postface), who for his passage under the Feltrinelli banner chooses as protagonists of the recently released ‘Now loved‘ a bookseller from Rome and a student at Bocconi University in Milan, both emotionally grappling with serial manipulators.

Now in his ninth narrative work after hundreds of thousands of copies sold and translations in Spain and Latin America, the Roman author is working on the natural evolution of his path also through comparison – in particular with the Americanist, editor and translator of Stephen King Luca Briasco – and the broadening of his vision passes through the chosen themes – addictions, and feminism as a question of personal growth – and the preference for an ending in the form of a warning: to cure unhealthy tendencies, human and psychological support is needed.

Emanuelli writes about points of passage in a fake non-autofiction that takes shape in ‘Ora amati’ in the character/alter ego of the bookseller, to whom she entrusts her voice on themes such as the relationship between paper publishing and digital promotion or the scent of books – understood as an attractive capacity outside of any rule, and criticism -, while celebrating her umbilical relationship with readers by making them customers/characters to whom she delivers tickets ad personam between the shelves. By dedicating a novel to the need to grow and mature by abandoning youthful dreams, she seems to subtly refer to a new course in her work. In part ‘Ora amati’ is already a shedding of skin, for the sentimental underdog who had anticipated the themes and success of romance starting from a post. In exchange for the risk of disorienting a part of the public, what the writer pursues every time is at stake: finding one’s own metamorphoses on a page.
