Heroin invades Rome in the 70s, a noir investigation by D’Angelo and Valle

Rome 1970: five hundred and sixty drug addicts under the age of 25. No heroin addicts. Heroin is unknown in Rome. The years pass. In November 1975, heroin addicts in Italy are estimated at twenty thousand. Italy is traumatized by the first deaths. What happened in the winter between ’74 and ’75 in the Capital? Heroin did not arrive mysteriously, by chance, all of a sudden. This is the scenario in which it moves ‘The Worst Son’ by Peter D’Angelo and Fabio Vallepublished byat Fandango Books to be released on July 5th. A novel that draws inspiration from the ROS documents and the testimony of a former SID agent relating to the investigation into operation ‘Blue Moon’, the code name for the widespread administration of narcotics in environments linked to opposition movements. An operation that was part of a broader ‘unconventional’ war plan.

Carlo reconstructs the intricate plot behind the sudden wave of heroin invading the city, revealing the plan that is slowly poisoning the streets of Rome. In his research he will be supported by Selce, a childhood friend who hangs out in the underworld, a courageous doctor, a police commissioner thirsty for justice and Silvia, a photographer for Stampa Alternativa. But he will have to hurry, because there is someone keeping an eye on him to throw him off track or, worse, eliminate him.

Peter D’Angelo – an investigative journalist who has worked for ‘Report’, ‘Presa Diretta’, ‘Petrolio’ – and the writer and documentary maker Fabio Valle, have written “a cruel and visceral book, the denunciation of a secret operation that leaves no one who reads it unscathed”, highlighted Marco Travaglio. ‘The Worst Son’ highlights a “merciless cross-section of Italy in the Seventies that overwhelms the dreams, lives and hopes of the protagonists and that keeps the reader glued to the pages”, wrote Francois Morlupi, author of the Cinque di Monteverde series.
