Italian Capital of Culture 2027, candidatures of cities and municipalities open until July 3

Municipalities, Metropolitan Cities and Unions of Municipalities still have a few hours, until tomorrow, July 3, to apply to become the Italian Capital of Culture 2027, as the Ministry of Culture reminds us on its social profiles. The prestigious award, established to promote the extraordinary wealth of Italian culture, represents a unique opportunity for Municipalities, Metropolitan Cities and Unions of Municipalities to set in motion virtuous mechanisms capable of activating economies, territories and communities.

To apply for the title, it will be necessary – a written expression of interest, after which cities, municipalities and Union of Municipalities will have to submit the application dossier, including the title, cultural project, body responsible for the project, assessment of economic-financial sustainability and objectives pursued, with the related indicators, by 26 September 2024. The applications will be evaluated by a Jury, which will be composed of 7 independent experts from the world of culture, the arts, territorial and tourism development, who will examine the projects received and then select the ten finalist cities from among them, by 12 December 2024, which will subsequently be invited to public hearings that will take place by 12 March 2025.

By March 28, 2025, the Jury will propose to the Minister of Culture the candidacy deemed most suitable to be awarded the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2027, which will benefit from funding of one million euros for the implementation of the activities planned in the dossier.
