Cedro blocks 18 download websites and removes 800,000 links to pirated works in the first half of the year

The Asociation Cedar has blocked during the first half of the year 18 illegal websites for downloading textual works (books, newspapers and magazines) and removed more than 800,000 links that shared works by its partners “illegally.”

“Through the Digital Anti-Piracy Service (SAD), CEDRO works to make the Internet as safe an environment as possible for authors and editors of literary culture.rita, in line with our mission to protect copyright and ensure the legal use of the works of our members,” the entity noted.

SAD constantly monitors (24/7) the works in the repertoire and locates those copies that are being shared illegally. Once monitored, Cedro proceeds to remove them, reducing the incidence of piracy of editorial content in the field of books, newspapers, magazines and sheet music.

Furthermore, it continues to make available to the Second Section of the Intellectual Property Commission of the Ministry of Culture those illicit pages where illegal copies of publications are shared. Specifically, so far this year, Cedro has submitted eight requests to these bodies to block web pages.

According to the latest available data (2022), 27.5% of accesses to illegal websites are editorial contentas reported by the Observatory of the Sustainability of Written Culture. In fact, while piracy in the rest of the areas grew by 12.01%, in the publishing industry it did so by almost 60%.

These data yield similar conclusions to those presented in the last Observatory on Piracy and Digital Content Consumption Habitswhich showed that the publishing sector is the only cultural sector that has seen growth in the percentage of users accessing its publications.
