Julia Navarro will publish a new novel in the fall, ‘The boy who lost the war’

The writer Julia Navarro will return this fall with a new novel, ‘The boy who lost the war’ (Plaza & Janés), the story of A Spanish boy sent to the Soviet Union in the final days of the Spanish Civil War against the will of his mother, who works as a cartoonist for republican newspapers.

The novel will be published in Spanish by Plaza & Janés and in Catalan by Rosa dels Vents, and will be distributed in Spain on September 5, both in print and digital formats and as an audiobook.. Over the next few months the novel will be published in the main Latin American countries. -Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Peru or Ecuador- as well as in the United Statesboth in Spanish and English.

Under the tutelage of Boris Petrov, a Soviet military advisor, the protagonist grows up in Moscow with his family, made up of two fervent revolutionaries – the grandfather fought alongside Lenin, while Petrov is a man loyal to Stalin – and Anya, a woman endowed with great sensitivity, a lover of music and literature, who feels herself withering away under the oppressive Stalinist regime.

As the Germans advance on the Russian front, repression will grow fiercer and Anya will pay the consequences of her intimate rebellion against the system. While Pablo’s Spanish family desperately searches for On the way to recover it, the young man will witness all the atrocities of the Russian regime: poverty, the absence of freedom of expression, prison and the Gulag.
