Abdullah Karaca remembers his first Passion Play in 2000. As an eleven-year-old boy, he followed Jesus into Jerusalem and was desperate to touch him, just as all children always wanted to touch the Savior. This experience was 24 years ago. Today, Karaca, born to Turkish parents in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1989, is the director and second director of the Oberammergau Passion Play, the world-famous theater spectacle about the last days of Jesus’ life that takes place every ten years. But that’s not all: Abdullah Karaca is stepping up to direct the Passion Play in 2030. He would replace his mentor and current director Christian Stückl.
