Pierre Niney, the handsome ambassador of the Château de Monte-Cristo in Port-Marly

The film by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, The Count of Monte Cristo released on June 28th, is a success. Alexandre Dumas’ novel, published between 1844 and 1846, has often been adapted for film, television or theatre. This time, the feature film intrigues the audience, who go so far as to visit the original author’s home in Port-Marly. “Since the film was released, there has been a significant increase in the number of visits to the castle”says Frédérique Lurol. July is not over yet, but visits are already above normal with five thousand visitors compared to 3,900 last year.

Perfect timing

“People ask us if the film was shot here, even though it’s just the author’s house.” This curiosity animates the spectators. The director of the castle, now belonging to the Intercommunal Syndicate of Port-Marly, Marly-le-roi and Le Pecq, remarks: “We have already experienced this increase in visits with The Three Musketeers.”

The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan by Martin Bourboulon released in April 2023 attracted four thousand visitors to the castle compared to the usual just over three thousand. “This year, we expected this increase since The Count of Monte Cristo came out at the beginning of the summer, but not to this extent. People are really happy with the film. It’s perfect timing.” In short, Pierre Niney is expected at the Chemin du Haut des Ormes in Port-Marly.
