Tim Walz in the US election campaign: The father complex

Oh, dad. That’s probably what Hope Walz, the 23-year-old daughter of the almost newly elected US vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, was thinking. It was September 2023, she was with her father at the State Fair in Minnesota, a kind of big fair with an attached agricultural show, and he shot a selfie video with her to build voter loyalty. Walz tells them what they are planning to do at this huge fair, including eating. “Corn dog?” he asks her. Hope: “I’m a vegetarian.” “Then turkey,” says Walz. After that he has to go on the “Slingshot” with her, probably the scariest ride at the fair. Here, too, the two of them can be seen through the gondola camera. Hope screams. Tim Walz screams. They laugh.
