DJ Snake Denounces Use of His Music at US Democratic Convention

Very discreet by nature, the French artist does not want his music to be used “during a political event of any kind whatsoever”.

DJ Snake, an artist who is quite discreet about his political opinions but also about his private life, denounced on the social network X, Wednesday August 21, the use of his title Turn Down for Whatat the American Democratic Convention. This event, which is currently taking place in Chicago, allowed Kamala Harris to be officially inaugurated as the candidate for the American presidential election, replacing Joe Biden.

« I have not authorized and still do not authorize the use of my music at any political event of any kind. »wrote the 38-year-old French-Algerian artist in a tweet spotted by Le HuffPost , showing Lil Jon, who collaborated with DJ Snake on this track, launching the song. This is also the tube Turn Down for What released in 2013, which launched the artist’s career. Since then, the DJ has had a string of hits, starting with Lean On in featuring with Major Lazer and MØ.

Very private about his political views, DJ Snake has nevertheless spoken out on a few occasions at major events. The artist encouraged his fans to go to the polls during the early legislative elections in June and also signed an op-ed published in Release for France to officially recognize the State of Palestine.

A recurring situation

DJ Snake, however, is not the only artist to complain about the unauthorized use of his own music at political events. Most recently, it was Celine Dion who called out Donald Trump for playing her song My Heart Will Go On at his meeting in Bozeman, Montana.

“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized use of the video, recording, musical performance and image of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump/JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use,” wrote the singer’s team on X in early August.
