In the first 15 days of September, 39 VNVC centers in Ho Chi Minh City injected more than 30,000 measles vaccine doses for children from 9 months old, an increase of more than 300% compared to the same period last month.
Doctor Bach Thi Chinh, Medical Director of VNVC Vaccination System, said as above, adding that the most chosen vaccine is the combined measles-mumps-rubella shot.
The doctor explained that the epidemic situation in Ho Chi Minh City has made many families want to vaccinate their children against measles as soon as possible, in order to protect their children’s health when they go to school.
Measles is an acute infectious disease caused by a virus, transmitted when an infected person coughs, sneezes or breathes. It spreads faster than Covid and flu. The disease mainly affects young children and can have serious complications and cause death.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City authorities announced a measles outbreak and called on parents to quickly vaccinate children who had not been vaccinated or had not received two doses. The city launched a vaccination campaign on August 31. However, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health assessed the vaccination progress as slow and wanted to speed up the vaccination rate to promptly repel the epidemic.
Joining hands with Ho Chi Minh City to prevent and fight measles, from September 16, VNVC mobilized nearly 2,000 nurses, doctors and medical staff to support free vaccination for children, focusing on safe and highly effective vaccination. The vaccination target group is the 1-10 year old group, who have not been vaccinated against measles or have unknown vaccination history.
Vaccination activities take place at 39 VNVC centers in Ho Chi Minh City, ready to deploy mobile vaccination. Children’s vaccination information will be stored on the National Immunization Information System (Ministry of Health) and VNVC’s vaccination phone application as regular customers at VNVC.
VNVC provides vaccinations every day of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, the unit is committed to supporting facilities, medical supplies, and mobilizing staff to join the city in preventing measles when necessary.
The campaign uses the measles-rubella vaccine (MRVAC) produced in Vietnam. The vaccine is provided from the city budget and the Ministry of Health. In vaccination activities, VNVC prioritizes the “safety” criterion, focusing on the storage and transportation of vaccines. The reason is that unsafely stored vaccines can be damaged, wasted or not create effective protection, affecting the health of young children.
Regarding the transportation and storage plan, Ms. Ngo Thi Tuyet Suong, Quality Director of VNVC Vaccination System, said that the unit’s specialized cold vehicle transporting vaccines will go to the district health center to receive and distribute measles vaccines. The quality management and logistics team strictly controls the temperature and storage conditions from the time of handover, during the transportation journey and to VNVC’s specialized cold storage.
100% of VNVC doctors and nurses have safety certificates, screening, vaccination and emergency treatment skills. All centers have rooms for post-injection reaction treatment, full emergency medicine and modern medical equipment such as anti-shock boxes and oxygen tanks.
In addition to supporting the measles vaccination campaign and increasing service vaccination, VNVC strives to provide all types of vaccines in the context of complicated epidemics and floods.
Family
VNVC vaccination system has nearly 200 vaccination centers nationwide and 39 centers in Ho Chi Minh City, fully equipped with measles vaccines and other dangerous diseases for children and adults. VNVC also has measles-mumps-rubella combination vaccines including Priorix (Belgium) and MMR II (USA), improving the effectiveness of preventing many diseases in one injection and saving costs, reducing the number of vaccinations. The vaccine is given to children from 9 months old and adults.
The unit is applying many preferential price policies to help people prevent diseases in time, especially poor families and children in special circumstances. VNVC is also a pioneer vaccination unit supporting pre-vaccination packages, paying later for up to 12 months, supporting all interest rates to help people pay flexibly, reducing economic burden.
