Milk, fresh fruit and vegetable juices, green tea are rich in antioxidants, contain some vitamins and minerals that help reduce joint pain.

Joint pain is a symptom of bone and joint diseases such as gout, osteoarthritis, arthritis. The pain is often dull or persistent, if not treated promptly, it will increase in intensity and severity.

Osteoarthritis and arthritis occur due to old age, obesity or previous joint injuries. Dr. Tran Thi Tra Phuong, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, advised patients to follow their doctor’s instructions and maintain appropriate physical activity. The daily diet should include enough vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Patients should also use the following 5 drinks to help reduce joint pain.

Purified water and alkaline mineral water: Drinking enough water every day is essential for people with arthritis. A well-hydrated body helps eliminate toxins, reduce inflammation and keep joints lubricated. Water also helps prevent gout attacks, as gout can aggravate the pain of arthritis. Everyone should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day.

In addition to filtered water, patients can also drink alkaline mineral water containing vitamin D to support calcium absorption and bone mineralization. Vitamin D deficiency can easily lead to muscle and joint pain (especially in the back), and reduced bone mineral density.

The potassium and magnesium in alkaline mineral water help transmit nerve signals along nerve fibers and help with muscle contractions and cramps. Muscle weakness is one of the main symptoms of potassium deficiency, along with muscle paralysis in severe cases. The calcium in this drink helps maintain strong bones.

Milk (organic): Milk provides quality protein and calcium, which maintain bone health. Cow’s milk also contains magnesium, which is important for muscle function. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) helps lower blood cholesterol. Vitamin A, vitamin B12, zinc, thiamine, iodine, and potassium in milk are beneficial for overall health.

Fresh vegetable juice: Inflammation is one of the main reasons for arthritis. Pineapples, oranges and vegetables like carrots, red peppers, pumpkins, tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps fight inflammation. Drinking these juices, preferably pure, helps prevent free radicals that cause inflammation.

In addition to juice, fruit and vegetable smoothies contain many nutrients that are good for muscles and joints. Avocados contain omega-3 which has anti-arthritis effects, blueberries promote inflammation reduction, bananas are rich in magnesium… which helps reduce joint pain.

Green tea: Polyphenols in green tea have anti-inflammatory effects, protecting cartilage and bones. Inflammation is a process that is often initiated by the body in response to injury or infection and can lead to stiffness, pain, and redness around muscles and joints.

Doctor Tra Phuong advises patients with joint pain to avoid or limit alcohol, foods high in sugar, saturated fat, grease, and quit smoking. Patients should get enough rest and exercise appropriately and gently.
