More than 80 people living in the same apartment building are suspected of water poisoning.

On the afternoon of September 26, Mr. Nguyen The Tung, Director of Vinh City Medical Center, said that the unit had taken samples of domestic water and food used by residents to test to find the cause. For now, authorities recommend that residents temporarily not use the water source in the apartment building for drinking.

“During the water testing process, the specialized agency noted abnormalities when discovering some insects, but to confirm that it was due to the water, many more factors need to be analyzed,” said Mr. Tung.

Many residents of the Golden City 3 apartment building in Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city, have shown symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and low blood pressure since noon on September 25. Mild cases are being monitored at home. Four severe cases were transferred to medical facilities for treatment and have now been discharged from the hospital, with stable health.

Mr. Tran Duc Ky, Head of the Golden City 3 apartment building management board, said that initially everyone had bloating, and by evening they had stomach aches and vomited. More than 80 residents in the building showed similar symptoms.

Over the past few days, the apartment building’s tap water has turned a light yellow color, according to Mr. Ky. The apartment building has not held any public parties recently, so people suspect that the cause may be the tap water.

Golden City 3 Apartment has 105 apartments with nearly 400 people. In addition to using tap water for daily use, some families also use bottled water. Tap water here is pumped through 3 underground settling tanks and then transferred to tanks on the top floor before being supplied to each household. On September 23, Vinh City had heavy rain, but the water tank in the building was not flooded.
