Suffering from mental illness due to decreased libido at age 30

Every time he is near his girlfriend, the 28-year-old man feels guilty, thinking he is incompetent because of his physiological weakness, leading to insomnia and anxiety.

At the Department of Mental Health, Hospital E, he said he could not regulate his desire, premature ejaculation, anxiety, fatigue, and stress. He and his girlfriend did not get along and often argued, so they became more depressed, unmotivated, and had poor concentration. He received andrological treatment, but his condition did not improve.

On October 3, Doctor Nguyen Viet Chung, Head of the Department, said the patient had depression and anxiety due to decreased libido and erectile dysfunction. The patient always feels guilty, obsessed, thinks he is “downgraded”, and always feels pressured when near his partner. The doctor prescribed depression medication as prescribed, improving mental health first, then treating male diseases.

“Patients need psychological care and self-esteem reduction first, then medical treatment later,” Mr. Chung said.

Similarly, a man, 30 years old, went to the doctor because he was suffering from stress, insomnia, and poor erectile ability, affecting his couple’s life. The patient has a healthy history, but is always pressured to make money and drinks a lot of alcohol. When examined at Hospital E, he was embarrassed because he thought he was still young and had decreased libido. The more he thinks, the more stressed he becomes, even more self-conscious and irritable.

The doctor concluded that the patient’s erectile dysfunction was due to psychological factors, so he advised him to change his lifestyle and activities such as eating and sleeping on time; Use stress reduction measures such as meditation, exercise, listening to music… and prescription treatment to improve.

Records at hospitals show that sexual dysfunction in young people is not uncommon, and is even increasing, with the average age being 30 or older.

According to doctors, testosterone plays a very important role, helping to create excitement, pleasure, maintain fertility and regulate the endocrine system for men. Sexual decline in male patients at a young age is often due to decreased testosterone. There are two main causes leading to this condition, including secondary causes, that is, men are stressed, stressed or are using some cardiovascular drugs, depression…, leading to decreased sexual function. . Men who are lazy and addicted to alcohol and stimulants are also at risk. Primary causes can be due to abnormalities, genes, trauma… or unknown causes.

Normally, from the age of 30, men’s testosterone begins to decline, and over a year this index decreases by 1-5%. Over the age of 35, men begin to enter middle age with a decline in testosterone levels to a level that causes decreased libido. When stressed, men are at greater risk of decreased libido. At this time, they tend to look for psychological relief methods such as drinking alcohol, smoking, etc., making the disease worse.

Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that stress causes men to lose sleep and can cause testosterone to decrease by 15% if insomnia lasts for a week. Men who sleep less than 5 hours a night for more than a week will have significantly reduced testosterone levels, only equal to the amount of testosterone in an elderly person.

“However, in any case, men feel low self-esteem, severe stress, and reduced self-esteem. If not treated, patients easily fall into depression, anxiety disorders, and inferiority complex,” said Dr. said the monk.

Sharing the same opinion, doctor Pham Minh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Sexual Medicine, said that young people with reduced libido often suffer more psychological trauma than older groups. In addition, the thought that “you are still a teenager but has weak physiology” can easily cause obsession, causing a serious decrease in libido, creating a vicious cycle of illness. Symptoms of depression in men are difficult to detect in women, most of whom go to the hospital late.

According to the doctor, men with this condition need to seriously follow the treatment regimen and take medication as prescribed, “because there are many antidepressants that cause decreased libido and endocrine disorders.”

In addition, men need to change their scientific lifestyle, exercise, not smoke, drink alcohol, or use stimulants. Sleep early, enough 7-8 hours/day. Absolutely do not pile up supplements or word-of-mouth methods that will make the disease worse.

Men should confide in their partners or relatives to relieve their emotions. Don’t worry too much or torment yourself, blame yourself and go to the doctor early for treatment.
