‘Addiction’ to social networks can cause decreased desire

A 34-year-old man, married for 5 years, recently spent a few hours in the evening surfing social networks, interacting with friends, gradually losing interest in sex and reducing the frequency of sex with his wife.

On October 4, Dr.BS.CK2 Tra Anh Duy, Men’s Health Center for Men’s Health, said the patient expressed concern about loss of sexual desire and feelings of separation from his wife. Patients show signs of decreased male hormone testosterone and psychological effects from social media addiction.

Besides medication, doctors recommend stopping using social networks at least an hour before going to bed, exercising to improve blood circulation and increase natural testosterone production. The patient needs to engage in direct interactions with his wife to restore affection and sexual interest. After three months of complying with the treatment regimen, the patient increased sexual desire and the relationship between husband and wife improved.

Similarly, a 30-year-old man came to the doctor because he lost interest and avoided relationships, leading to a tense relationship with his lover. He is a manager at a media company, using social networks all day to monitor and manage advertising campaigns. Because he has to constantly update and respond online, even outside of work hours, he feels stressed and anxious when not using his phone.

The doctor diagnosed the patient with decreased libido due to prolonged stress, stimulated and maintained by excessive use of social networks. Patients undergo psychological therapy to manage stress and reduce dependence on social networks. The doctor asked to participate in extracurricular activities and exercise to improve psychological health and increase blood circulation, restore testosterone hormone, helping patients improve libido after 4 months.

Recent research on Journal of Men’s Healthblue light emitted from phone screens and electronic devices can reduce sleep quality and affect testosterone levels – the main hormone that regulates sexual desire in men. Using social networks too much at night also reduces rest time, increases stress and fatigue, thereby reducing sexual desire.

Doctors recommend that men adjust the time they spend on social media, seek support from a medical professional when needed, and maintain healthy lifestyle habits to maintain healthy sexual health.
