South Korea recalls milk due to contamination with cleaning solution

The recall only applies to Maeil Milk Original 200 ml box, expiry date February 16, 2025, produced at the Gwangju factory. The company said that about 50 products were contaminated with washing water during production due to equipment operating errors during the cleaning process.

The incident was discovered after employees at a research center of a large corporation reported stomach pain after drinking a product provided at the canteen. This is all milk from Maeil Dairies.

The company decided to proactively recall the product to ensure consumer safety. The company did not disclose the specific quantity of milk affected or the type of detergent mixed in. However, the company confirmed that other products on the same line had no problems after further inspection. The company has also strengthened its production monitoring processes.

On December 16, General Director Kim Seon-hee of Maeil Dairies posted an apology on the company website. “We sincerely apologize to customers who were shocked by this issue,” Kim said.
