Britain does not approve Asma Assad’s entry for treatment
The Andolo news agency reported confirming her entry to the UK for treatment, after her British passport expired in September 2020. According to the report, Asma is in critical condition, with a 50% chance of survival. The discussion regarding her passport status was born after her father, Fouad Ahras, a cardiologist by profession, left his position at the clinic where he worked to take care of his ailing family in Moscow.

It is not yet clear whether Assad’s passport was blocked by UK government officials. Government sources have confirmed that Esma does not have a valid British passport and that Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, will not allow her to enter the UK due to her health condition. The Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, previously stated that the British government should no longer consider the negative of her citizenship.

Last Wednesday (12/25) the “Daily Telegraph” reported that Asma is in isolation due to her medical condition. Her father, the Syrian cardiologist Fawaz Ahras, took care of his daughter in Moscow, where she fled with her husband and their children. The father was described as “heartbroken” by those close to the family, this after he had already taken care of his daughter for the past six months, first in the United Arab Emirates and then as mentioned in Moscow. The 49-year-old is believed to be dying and cannot be in the same room with anyone due to her critical condition.
