Tips to avoid back pain when moving house

Avoid bending over to carry heavy objects, do not rotate your body suddenly, maintain correct standing, sitting, and lying postures to help prevent back pain when moving house or working during the Tet season.

The work of cleaning, carrying, arranging things, decorating the house… preparing for Tet makes bones and joints more active, causing pain, especially in the back area. Dr. Le Anh Khanh, Spinal Surgery Unit, Tam Anh General Clinic, District 7, explained that back pain when moving house mainly occurs due to incorrect working posture. For example, leaning or bending down to lift an object from the ground causes the spine to bend and suffer great pressure. Bending over while cooking or leaning over to clean overhead can cause the entire body weight to be concentrated on the lower back, the muscles next to the spine and the ligaments being overloaded.

To prevent acute back pain and even spinal injuries due to moving house for Tet, Dr. Khanh notes the following working and living posture:

When lifting objects: Start in a squatting position, with your feet wide enough apart to maintain stability and avoid falling. When lifting, hold the object close to your stomach, keep your spine straight, do not twist, arch or bend to protect your spine from the risk of injury.

Avoid strong and sudden movements: Turning around, sitting up, pushing the stand to stand on the motorbike or lifting the rear of the motorbike… are movements that not only cause back pain but can also easily lead to injury.

Maintain correct posture: Stand up straight, body weight divided equally between both legs. Avoid positions that force you to arch or lean forward, especially in people who already have signs of back pain.

Choose a chair of the appropriate height When working, keep your feet flat on the floor. The back is straight and leans evenly against the back of the chair. You can add a thin pillow to the lumbar area to create a physiological curve. You should stand up and walk every 30-45 minutes, regularly do exercises on the spot to soften your back muscles.

When restingyou should lie on your back, keep your head – neck – body – legs in a straight line, do not put your pillow high. If you lie on your side, slightly bend your knees toward your chest, inserting a small pillow between your knees if necessary.

When pain symptoms appear, Dr. Khanh advises patients to apply home care measures to reduce discomfort such as bed rest, gentle exercise, and use of pain relievers and muscle relaxants. , spinal massage… If symptoms do not improve after a few days, the patient should see a doctor. The doctor may prescribe laboratory tests such as digital X-ray MXHF-1500DR or MRI 3 Tesla… to find the exact cause of back pain, and then treat accordingly.

Back pain can be a sign of many diseases such as disc herniation, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis… If the disease is not treated promptly, it can cause a lot of pain, affecting the patient’s motor function.
