Influenza and all ways to reduce infection risk

Two first child mortality cases this winter in the US: A child from east Virginia and a boy from the center of the state died of flu. According to the Virginia Health Department, it is a painful reminder that the flu, despite being a common illness, can be dangerous and even fatal.

At the same time, the proportion of influenza vacation in Virginia is only 30% – a low figure that puts many at risk.

Influenza vaccines can prevent severe complications. During the 2023-2024 season it was estimated that the vaccines prevented eight million cases of influenza-related diseases, 120,000 hospitalizations and 7,900 deaths.

According to the Health Department, this is the most important means of protection against the disease, and they recommend those we have not vaccinated, do so as quickly as possible.
