The presence of loved ones during childbirth helps to reduce stress in women

American researchers have scientifically proved that pregnant women who do not have familiar people for emotional support during childbirth were more likely to experience a higher level of stress than those who had supportive faces. Scientists also found out that stress during childbirth was comparable with an increase in stress associated with Caesarean section.

Researchers used the data of their observations about the Covid-19 and the reproductive effects of 2020, which included the online survey of 1100 pregnant women, where the influence of the pandemic on the well-being and experience of medical care was studied. None of the respondents said that she would prefer to give birth alone. However, due to the restrictions introduced in hospitals in 2020 during the pandemic, many women gave birth without support or could have only one obstetric assistant.

About 30% of the survey participants reported that at least one person whom they would like to see in childbirth could not be present. 93% of them noted that this was due to hospital restrictions. Some of them hoped that their partner, Doula or mother could be with them during childbirth. 14% of respondents said that their medical workers seemed busy, abstract or inaccessible, which was associated with a higher level of stress during childbirth. In addition, the study showed that women with a higher level of education experienced significantly greater stress during childbirth.
