Kidney failure due to salty food

Salt is an essential mineral essential for the body, but redundant will be harmful.

“Salty eating is a hidden culprit causing hypertension, stroke, kidney edema, kidney failure,” said Dr. Yen Thuy, explaining more when eating too much salt, the body holds more water and increases blood volume, creates pressure on blood vessels, leading to hypertension. Salty eating also causes sodium to accumulate in the body much, over time beyond the ability to eliminate the kidneys. At this time, the body must add more water, blood circulation to the glomerular increases, so the kidneys must work more to dialysis. Long -term causes impaired renal function. Salt also makes the kidneys hold water, leading to edema. The above health problems increase the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction.

Doctors prescribe blood pressure drugs and advise Mr. Sang to a diet to reduce salt. After 6 months of compliance with treatment and changes in his diet and kidney function to improve, blood pressure is stable at 120-125/80 mmHg.

The national survey results of the Ministry of Health in 2015 showed that an average Vietnamese adult consumed 9.4 g of salt in a day, nearly double that of WHO recommendations (5 g of a day). In 2021, this level decreased to 8.4 g but remained high.

Fish sauce, soy sauce, seasoning seeds, seasoning, chili sauce, ketchup … combined with dipping sauce or other salty dishes, the amount of sodium body absorbed can exceed the allowed level. Doctor Yen Thuy recommends that adults should only consume 5 g of salt daily. This amount of salt must be included in the spice processing food or dishes that are marinated with salt. Each person should limit the sauce, reduce salt when cooking. Priority is given to boiled, steamed dishes instead of stocking, rim to cut saline spices, while limiting processed foods, paying attention to product labels, choosing low salt.

Children do not need to be salty as adults. Salt low diet is still nutritious and good for your baby’s long -term health. The baby’s menu should be flexibly changed to create interest, reduce the dependence on salt and spices in the daily meal.
