Testicular inflammation, infertility in men

For many male patients, mumps are a fear of complications that cause testicular inflammation and epididymis. This complication accounts for 25-30% in men with the disease, often appearing after ear swelling for 5-10 days. At this time, the testes are twice as large as normal, thick epididymis. About half of the testes atrophy lead to a decrease in sperm count, reducing sperm. Inflammation on both sides of the testes can lead to infertility.

Ovarian inflammation, fetal deformity

Ovarian inflammation in women due to mumps accounts for about 7%. Inflammation causes patients with dull abdominal pain or attacks, abnormal discharge and odors. If not treated properly, mumps can be progressed to chronic ovarian inflammation, ovarian adhesion, ovarian cyst, ovarian obstruction … affecting fertility.

For pregnant women, complications of mumps can cause miscarriage or fetal malformation in the first three months of pregnancy, causing premature birth or fetus in the last three months of pregnancy.

Pancreatitis

This is a possible complication in both male and female patients, about 3-7%. Pancreatitis usually occurs around the 4th day to the 10th day when the ear inflammation has helped. Common manifestations such as epigastric abdominal pain with nausea, diarrhea and anorexia.

Encephalitis, meningitis

Meningitis accounts for about 10-35% of cases, common in children. This complication may occur alone or after an otus gland inflammation for 3-10 days. The manifestation of the disease is high fever, headache, vomiting, seizures, visual disorders.

To prevent mumps effectively, people should actively vaccinate vaccines. Vietnam currently has many types of vaccines to prevent mumps, measles and rubella for children and adults such as Priorix (Belgium) and MMR II (USA). In particular, MMR II injected children from 12 months old and Priorix can be injected from children from 9 months of age. For women who are planning to get pregnant, they should complete the injection schedule before pregnancy for at least 3 months.
