Klalit will participate in the same amount as that which will be allocated by the government to which contributions from philanthropic parties will be added. According to estimates, the total cost of the project will exceed one billion shekels. Among the donors to the construction of the hospital tower: the Jewish billionaire philanthropist Sylvan Adams who donated 100 million dollars, the Koum family foundation which donated 50 million dollars, and the Elmsley Foundation which donated 15 million dollars.
The new tower, which will have ten floors, is expected to be an addition to the hospital system in the south. About 70 percent of the inpatient beds in the hospital will be protected as part of the new construction, along with operating rooms, intensive care units, imaging facilities and other support systems.
The director general of the Ministry of Health, Moshe Bar Siman Tov, stated that the goal is to carry out a comprehensive upgrade of the hospital buildings and adapt them to the standards required for emergencies and routines. According to him, the plan includes investment in infrastructure, protection and improving public trust.
Beer Sheva Mayor Rubik Danilovich said that this is an important step to strengthen the health system in the Negev and to prepare for future emergency scenarios. The director of the Soroka Hospital, Prof. Shlomi Kodesh, said that the hospital’s management has been working since the incident to raise resources and promote rehabilitation plans and strengthen the buildings.
Acting Minister of Health Haim Katz said: “The decision to build the Tower of Resurrection in Soroka is intended to ensure that the State of Israel fulfills its commitment to the residents of the south. This is a practical move that will strengthen the public hospitalization system, upgrade the infrastructure and ensure adequate protection for the central hospital in the south. Soroka Hospital is a health anchor for the residents of the south. The decision made today will provide security, quality of service to patients and hope to hundreds of thousands of residents in the Negev, and will ensure that the health system remains strong and ready for any challenge.”
Sylvain Adams: “Investments in the South are not just investments in infrastructure development, they are investments in our national future. They are essential to absorb the million new immigrants that I announced we will bring to Israel in the next five years. The Negev is the natural place to absorb this new wave of immigration, and finally fulfill Ben-Gurion’s vision – a flourishing and prosperous Negev.”
