The number of people poisoned after eating bread sold at two stores in the same system in Go Vap and Binh Thanh (old) increased to 299 after 7 days, receiving emergency treatment at 14 hospitals.Thus, compared to yesterday, the number of people hospitalized with poisoning on November 11 increased by 64. A representative of the Department of Medical Operations, Department of Health of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the majority of patients’ health is stable, most have been discharged, while 82 people are still hospitalized. This is the most persistent mass poisoning case in Ho Chi Minh City, since the first cases were hospitalized on November 5.

Military Hospital 175 received 175 patients, currently there are 25 inpatient cases, no serious cases. Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City received 30 cases, of which 5 patients are still being treated and their health is stable.

Gia Dinh People’s Hospital has 62 cases, currently 37 cases remain for inpatient treatment. Among them, one patient had a positive blood culture for Salmonella, one had a coagulase negative Staphylococcus infection, and one had a stool culture infected with Salmonella. One patient is seriously ill due to many underlying diseases, the other patients are stable.

Some hospitals received fewer patients, most of whom were discharged or stable, such as My Duc Tan Binh Hospital (28-year-old pregnant woman discharged), Becamex International Hospital (9 cases, expected to be discharged tomorrow), Central My Tay General Hospital (6 cases discharged, one still being treated), Go Vap General Hospital (4 cases), Children’s Hospital 2 (3 cases), Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital (one case).

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, facility 1 and facility 3 each have two cases. Binh Dan Hospital, People’s Hospital 115, Khanh Hoi General Hospital have one case each, all have been discharged.

The above patients have been hospitalized one after another since November 5 until now. They had the same symptoms of stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever after eating bread purchased at two bread shops in the same system. Doctors diagnosed the patient with food poisoning.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety coordinated with functional forces to establish an investigation team. Two bread shops have temporarily stopped operating, all food and ingredients have been sealed and samples taken for testing.

Currently, authorities have not concluded the cause of poisoning.
