5 fruits to reduce dry skin during the cold season

Fruits rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and water such as citrus, avocado, cucumber, kiwi, and pomegranate help skin retain moisture well, reducing dryness and cracking in cold weather.

Cold weather makes the skin susceptible to dehydration, peeling, and burning due to a sharp decrease in air humidity and constriction of blood vessels under the skin. BS.CKI Dao Thi Yen Thuy, Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said eating fruits rich in vitamins, water and antioxidants helps nourish the skin from the inside, increase moisture, and maintain the skin protective barrier more effectively.

Citrus fruits

Oranges, tangerines, and grapefruits are rich in vitamin C, which helps synthesize collagen for elastic skin, reducing dryness and dullness. The natural water content in these fruits also provides gentle moisture. Drinking a glass of orange juice or eating 1-2 tangerines a day during the cold season can make your skin softer, smoother, and brighter.

Butter

Avocados contain monounsaturated fats, vitamin E and antioxidants that can restore the skin’s protective lipid layer. This is an important factor that promotes the skin to retain moisture, limiting cracking in dry weather. Eating half an avocado every day or using avocado in salads helps keep your skin healthy and less irritated.

Cucumber

Cucumbers are more than 95% water, helping to rehydrate the body and naturally moisturize the skin. This fruit also contains silica – a mineral that helps increase elasticity and soothe skin when dry or irritated during the cold season. You can eat cucumber as a side dish or juice it with apples and celery to increase nutrients.

Kiwi

Kiwi is rich in vitamin C, polyphenols, and fiber to help reduce inflammation, improve skin structure, and limit dryness and dullness. Golden kiwis contain a higher amount of vitamin C than oranges, making them a good choice for people who want to increase resistance and moisturize their skin during the cold season. You should eat a kiwi every day to improve skin health.

Pomegranate

Punicalagin and anthocyanin in pomegranates are two powerful antioxidants that help prevent dry skin, reduce wrinkles and protect skin from damage caused by cold air. This fruit also increases blood circulation under the skin, giving the skin a rosier, fresher look. Half a pomegranate or a small glass of pomegranate juice per day is a good amount.

To reduce dry skin during the cold season, in addition to supplementing with fruits, doctor Yen Thuy recommends drinking enough water 1.5-2 liters per day, limiting bathing in too hot water, maintaining room humidity and increasing healthy fats in the diet. People with atopic dermatitis, diabetes, thyroid disease, people over 45 years old, or people who often have dry, cracked skin on their hands and feet in the cold should see a doctor for nutritional advice, assessment of skin moisture, inflammation, and instructions on appropriate care during the cold season. Adding natural essences such as sakura (cherry blossom extract), pomegranate (red pomegranate extract), p.leucotomos (fern extract), l-glutathione… contributes to fighting aging agents, helping to reduce dark melanin, making skin bright and smooth.
