8 exercises that burn more calories than jogging

Brisk walking, climbing, swimming, cycling or jumping rope can burn the same amount of calories, or even higher, than jogging if exercised long enough and at the right intensity.

The amount of calories burned during exercise depends on the intensity, duration of exercise and personal factors such as weight and muscle mass. Some forms of exercise mobilize multiple muscle groups and can burn more calories than jogging if exercised at high intensity or maintained for a long time, despite having a low impact level.

Hiking and climbing

Jogging typically burns more calories per minute than walking. However, many people can walk for longer periods of time than jog, thereby burning a higher total number of calories. For example, a person can walk for two hours but only run for about 30 minutes. Climbing or walking uphill can burn more calories than jogging if the distance is long enough and the slope is steep.

High-intensity interval training

HIIT typically burns more calories per minute of exercise than moderate-intensity jogging, thanks to short but intense bursts of exercise. After a workout, HIIT also creates a calorie-burning effect that lasts for several hours due to a temporary increase in metabolic rate. However, this form of exercise requires good physical fitness and is not suitable for everyone.

Cycling

Cycling at a speed of about 19 km/h or more can burn the same amount of calories, or even higher, than moderate-intensity jogging. This form of exercise also has less impact on the joints, helping many people maintain exercise for a longer period of time than jogging. Cycling indoors on a stationary bike can have the same calorie-burning effect as cycling outdoors if the right intensity is maintained. Changing the incline or speed will help increase the challenge and improve workout effectiveness.

Rope skipping

Jumping rope is a full-body exercise, requiring the coordination of many muscle groups and joints, and is an effective form of cardiovascular exercise. This activity can burn a lot of calories in a short time, even higher than moderate-intensity jogging if done with the right technique and appropriate intensity.

Racquetball

Lacrosse is a combat sport that can burn a significant amount of calories, even higher than moderate-intensity jogging, thanks to the need to move continuously and hit the ball quickly. This sport helps improve cardiovascular endurance and strengthen muscle strength. Like other forms of exercise, the number of calories burned playing lacrosse depends on the intensity and duration of exercise.

Roofing machine

The rowing machine works many muscle groups, including the upper body, lower body, and abdominal muscles. This is a full-body exercise that helps burn a lot of calories, which can be equivalent or higher than moderate-intensity jogging if exercised at the right intensity.

Swimming

Swimming is a low-impact, full-body exercise that is suitable for most people, including people with joint pain. Depending on the intensity and swimming style, this is also a form of cardiovascular exercise that can burn as many calories as jogging. Because there is less pressure on the joints, many people can maintain swimming for longer periods of time, so the total number of calories burned in a workout session can be higher than running.

Boxing

This is a full-body exercise that helps increase heart rate and burn a lot of calories. When exercising at high intensity or sparring, boxing can burn the same or more calories than moderate-intensity jogging.
