At the age of 45, the “Queen of Mandopop” maintains the habit of going to bed at 9:30 p.m. to preserve her skin and figure.
In a new podcast series titled Pleasure TalksJolin Tsai shares about her unique personal lifestyle, which helps her maintain her skin and figure. “Taiwan’s Queen” said the secret does not lie in expensive treatments but in strict compliance with the biological clock.
The Taiwanese music diva admitted that she used to sleep at 10pm. However, after returning from a business trip from the US, having to adjust to the time zone pushed her bedtime an hour earlier. “For many nights in a row, I went to bed at 9 p.m. The next day, I woke up and felt radiantly beautiful,” the female singer excitedly shared. Realizing that her body responded well, she decided to maintain a fixed bedtime at 9:30 p.m.
This discipline sometimes creates “half laughing, half crying” situations. Close friend Thai Kien Nha revealed that during gatherings of friends, the “Queen of Mandopop” (Mandarin Chinese pop music) often quietly calls a car to go home early to get to bed in time. Thai Y Lam even wishes her music nights were held at 2:00 p.m. so she could finish work before 5:00 p.m. and rest early.

The podcast program accidentally turned the phrase “Tylin Tsai’s bedtime” into a social network phenomenon. At the age of 45, the diva’s youthful beauty and standard figure are the motivation that makes many people determined to follow. On one forum, the question “is going to bed at 9:30 p.m. really effective?” received a series of positive feedback. Many people confirm that going to bed early and waking up early not only helps their skin improve significantly like when they were in the military, but can also help heal health problems such as allergies after just a few months of perseverance.
However, for most modern young people, the habit of going to bed early is not easy. One person said “I went to bed at 9:30 p.m. but toss and turned until midnight and still woke up, and when I woke up in the morning I was even more tired.” With work pressure and the siege of electronic devices, going to bed before 10pm seems to be an “impossible task”.
This trend also became an iconic joke, when internet users used the female singer’s bedtime as a timeline. Instead of meeting at 10:30 p.m., they will say: “Let’s meet after Tsai Y Lam goes to bed for an hour.” There’s even a website called “Tsai Ylin Standard Time, Are You Sleeping?” was born. This website is not only for checking the time, but also for people to check what time they go to bed, and to collect statistics about which area/city people go to bed the earliest.
Faced with the fact that many people try to follow Tsai Y Lam and go to bed at 9:30 p.m. but wake up in the middle of the night, nutritionist Cao Man Man posted a warning on Facebook. She affirmed that the time you lie down in bed is not as important as “getting enough sleep and having a stable schedule”. Besides sleep time, sleep quality is a prerequisite for the body to truly recover, avoiding the situation where you still wake up feeling tired as if you never slept.
According to sleep education materials from the National Taiwan University Hospital Sleep Center, the golden rule for good health is to maintain a consistent bedtime. Experts recommend going to bed before 11pm and making sure to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day. If you lie in bed for more than 30 minutes and still don’t feel sleepy, don’t force yourself to close your eyes. Get up and do some gentle exercise or read a book to relax. Trying to lie awake for too long only makes the brain more alert and makes it more difficult to fall asleep.
Information from medical journals shows that sleeping 6-8 hours per night is the safest threshold to help reduce the risk of disease. Sleeping too long (over 9 hours) or too short (under 5 hours) both causes negative consequences for the body. If you cannot maintain “Thai Y Lam Hour”, experts recommend trying to fall asleep before 11pm so that your body has time to heal itself and balance your beauty from the inside.
