Tragedy in Novokuznetsk, nine babies died in the maternity hospital over the New Year holidays

In Novokuznetsk (Kemerovo region – Kuzbass, Russian Federation) in the obstetric hospital No. 1 of the Novokuznetsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1, which was closed for quarantine for sanitary and epidemiological reasons due to exceeding the threshold for the incidence of respiratory infection, nine babies died during the New Year holidays, TASS reports.

The causes of death are being established.

After reports of the death of newborns, the prosecutor’s office organized an inspection with the involvement of specialists from Rospotrebnadzor and Roszdravnadzor. In the investigative department for Novokuznetsk, the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kuzbass is conducting a pre-investigation check under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence).

Roszdravnadzor told TASS that the department’s territorial body is checking the organization of medical care for mothers and babies in this maternity hospital.

The Kuzbass Ministry of Health commission went to assess the situation in the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital, where the babies died. This was announced by the region’s Minister of Health Andrei Tarasov during a live broadcast on social networks.
