Another anti-Semitic story in the world of medicine: Dr. Najamiya Ahmed, a senior anesthesiologist at a medical center in the southeast of England, shared anti-Semitic content and conspiracy theories on social media linking, allegedly, “Zions” to the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York.
According to the decision of the Medical Courts Service in Great Britain, Dr. Ahmed was suspended from the practice of medicine for two months after a series of publications and shares on the Internet that she made between December 2023 and January 2024. Among other things, she shared posts in which it was claimed that the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington were an “inside job” carried out with the help of “the government and media controlled by Zionists”.
She also shared a video in which it was claimed that throughout history “the Zionists” worked to provoke world events and wars with the aim of establishing the State of Israel. In another post, she shared content from a website that was reported to be associated with neo-Nazi circles, and stated that it was viewed for personal learning purposes. Alongside one of the videos, she shared a comment in which she wrote that she “always wanted to know why Hitler was obsessed with killing.”
The court determined that the publications and shares were anti-Semitic and offensive, and that Dr. Ahmed’s conduct exceeded professional standards, and even harmed the public’s trust in the medical profession. It was also determined that her actions caused damage to her ability to practice medicine at this stage. However, it was noted that not enough evidence was found that the shares were made out of a motive of religious or racial hatred towards Jews.
During the discussions, Dr. Ahmed claimed that she used the X social network as a research tool, and that she shared the contents in order to review them later. She said that she was emotionally affected by the war in Gaza, and that she did not realize at the time that the term “Zionist” is sometimes used as an indirect term for Jews. According to her, she does not hate Jews, and has since undergone training and guidance regarding the use of social networks.
