Scottish Parliament rejects bill to legalize euthanasia

The initiator of the law was Liam MacArthur, a liberal democrat, and if passed, Scotland would become the first part of the UK to allow euthanasia. However, the proposal was supported by only 57 deputies, 69 voted against – after an emotional discussion.

The main argument of opponents of the law was the danger of forcing patients to euthanasia. Mac Arthur accused his opponents of not being prepared to help the suffering people and families of dying Scots.
