Cases of Dengue fever have been reported in Israel among tourists returning from Sinai.

The Ministry of Health reports that there are increasing cases of dengue fever in the Sinai Peninsula, and since the beginning of the year, seventeen Israeli tourists who returned from Sinai have been diagnosed with the virus.

According to the Ministry of Health, three tourists from Israel and Italy were infected in the Sharm el-Sheikh area. The Ministry of Health emphasizes that although there have been cases of dengue fever among tourists returning from Egypt in the past, there were no infections in Sinai until this year.

Thus, we can talk about the expansion of the habitat areas of mosquitoes that carry this viral disease, and about a serious danger for Israel due to the geographical proximity of the infection zones.

Dozens of cases of this disease are registered in Israel every year, all of them are “imported”; no secondary infections have yet occurred in sick Israelis.
