Japan donated 300 billion VND to upgrade cancer treatment equipment at K hospital

The Japanese government supported 1.83 billion Yen, equivalent to 300 billion VND, for K Hospital to buy modern equipment to serve cancer examination and treatment.

This amount of funding is provided by the Japanese Government as non-refundable aid, according to the project support agreement Upgrading medical equipment at K Hospital Signed on the morning of May 28. It is expected that a number of modern medical equipment and machinery will be purchased from this aid source, such as PET/CT, SPECT/CT machine systems, 3.0 Tesla magnetic resonance machine, 128-row computerized tomography machine, One-plane digital subtraction angiography, 4-dimensional computer tomography with simulation function, digital X-ray machine, endoscopy system… These are all the most modern equipment. Currently serving the cancer examination and treatment needs of the people.

On this occasion, K Hospital’s 3 Quan Su facility also reopened after 5 years of renovation. GS. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital, said that initially the capital source was only used to build infrastructure. Institute leaders must ask for equipment support, expected at 1,200 billion VND. In addition to the VND 300 billion aid provided by the Japanese Government, the Government also supported the hospital with VND 790 billion to purchase radiotherapy equipment.

“Modern equipment helps improve diagnosis, examination and treatment capacity at Quan Su facility, reducing the load on other hospital facilities,” Professor. Quang said, adding that the investment project lasts from 2024-2026, but hopes to have enough machinery equipped by the middle of next year.

With the above equipment, Quan Su facility has 200 inpatient beds and 120 day treatment beds, meeting the medical examination and treatment needs of about 1,000 cases per day.

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan assessed this as an important project to improve the oncology examination and treatment capacity of the health sector in the context that the death rate is shifting from infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases. In recent years, the incidence and death rates from cancer have increased very worryingly. In 2022, Vietnam will record 180,480 new cancer cases and more than 120,000 deaths. The need for cancer examination and treatment is increasing.

K Hospital has three medical examination and treatment facilities including Quan Su, Tam Hiep and Tan Trieu, with more than 2,000 medical staff working. This is the last referral hospital in the North specializing in cancer treatment.
