Dry fasting, intermittent fasting, supplementing too much protein makes the body easily dehydrated, increasing the risk of kidney stone formation and digestive disorders.

High-protein diet

A protein-rich diet contributes to successful weight loss. Many people who gain weight often have cravings at night. These calories are added to the total calories for the day. High protein intake reduces ghrelin levels (hunger hormone), increasing metabolic rate after eating, during sleep. According to the US health agency’s dietary reference intake recommendations, the average person needs 0.8 g of protein per kg of body weight.

Diets with more than recommended amounts of protein can lead to dehydration. People following this diet need to supplement 2-2.5 liters of water, drinking even when not thirsty.

Ketogenic

Low-carbohydrate and high-fat diets have been shown to be effective weight loss methods, but they also come with some side effects. In the long term, the keto diet increases the risk of dehydration, kidney stones, cardiovascular disease, bone fractures due to acidosis, dyslipidemia, and increased episodes of hypoglycemia. The ketogenic diet easily causes the body to lose water before losing fat. Some common symptoms include dizziness, fatigue, headache, constipation, diarrhea, nausea…

Whether you have just started the keto diet or have been following it for a while, you need to focus on adding water to your body. Drink a glass of water when you first wake up, 8-10 glasses throughout the day. Tracking fluid intake using a smartphone app or urine color is also helpful.

Intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting is a term that describes a cyclical, fasting diet. This method gives the body enough time to fully consume food, while strictly limiting the amount of calories consumed.

There are different ways for people to do it. Some people choose the 5:2 method, which allows them to eat normally five days of the week and then restrict calories on the other two days. Others use the 16:8 method, which means fasting for 16 hours a day. Eaters must follow the predetermined time for all main meals and snacks.

Because you eat less, your body easily lacks water because water is abundant in food. Dieters should carry water with them, focusing on vegetables and fruits.

Dry fasting

Dry fasting is a version of intermittent fasting that requires dieters to limit both food and drink. Some people practice dry fasting for religious reasons. Others support this diet because they believe it promotes weight loss or slows the aging process. The body easily becomes dehydrated when following this diet, which puts you at risk of forming kidney stones and urinary tract infections.

Atkins diet

In the beginning (about two weeks or more), the Atkins diet completely eliminates sugar, increases protein and maintains fat. Recommended foods in this diet are meat, fish, beans, nuts, good fats including oil, fish fat, and oily seeds such as chestnuts and peanuts. Fruit juices should be limited as much as possible because they contain a lot of added sugar.

Because vegetables and fruits are eliminated, the body is at a higher risk of dehydration. People following this diet should drink more water during the day.
