Study: Physical activity and diet may slow progression of Alzheimer's disease

A study published in the journal Alzheimer’s Research and Therapy demonstrates that physical activity and diet can slow the progression of early Alzheimer’s disease.

According to this study, in a group of patients who agreed to make lifestyle changes – eating healthy foods, exercising and using stress management techniques – stabilization was observed.

Patients who did not change their habits showed a noticeable deterioration in thinking and memory over the same period. According to the report, the study enrolled 51 Alzheimer’s patients between September 2018 and June 2022, ranging in age from 45 to 90 years. Patients were offered a vegan diet high in complex carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Calorie intake was unlimited.

For exercise, patients were offered walking or strength training for 30 minutes three times a week. Stress management was done through yoga, breathing exercises and Pilates.
