According to convention, the room temperature that leads to relaxed activity is 22 to 24 degrees. Many myths have been spread over the years about the air conditioner and its effect on the body, and the truth is that most of them are obviously wrong. Here we will put the rumors in order:

The comfortable temperature for sleep: 21-22 degrees
In the normal sleep structure, it was found in sleep laboratories that the optimal level with few awakenings is around a temperature of 21 to 22 degrees.

The air conditioner does not cause the flu
Many are afraid of the cold emitted by the air conditioner lest it cause fever, flu, colds or pneumonia. The truth is that inflammations, colds and flu are viral diseases caused by viruses or bacteria and not by low temperature. And apparently, people in the North Pole or in Scandinavia who live in extreme cold most of the year, do not get sick more than those who live in warm areas.

Cold does not damage the muscles and skeleton
Another rumor holds that the air conditioner causes back pain or arthritis. The truth is that there are no scientific studies that support this rumor.

It is better to sleep with a fan
The world of medicine has no guidelines for this. Some are more comfortable with a fan that does not reduce the humidity level and does not cause dehydration during the night. Others prefer the air conditioner that maintains a preferred temperature.

It is dangerous to let the baby sleep with an air conditioner
This is also a wrong saying: on the contrary, a room that is too hot can cause an increase in body temperature as well as excessive sweating, discomfort and even dehydration. As mentioned, the normal temperature in the room, even for a baby, is 22 to 24 degrees.

And in the meantime, following the heavy heat loads, the Ministry of Health called on the general public, and in particular on at-risk populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, children and patients with chronic diseases, to avoid exposure to heat and the sun as much as possible, to avoid physical exertion outside of an air-conditioned place, to make sure to drink plenty of water, and to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays through Sunscreen that should be applied half an hour before exposure to the sun, and again every two hours.

In the coming days, the heavy heat wave is expected to prevail in our region, at least until the end of next week – the edge of the forecast, with high temperatures and an increase in humidity. Tomorrow and Monday there will be a slight drop in temperatures, but it will still be hotter than usual until Saturday.
