The meal is suspected of causing poisoning for 127 workers

127 workers vomited, had stomachaches, and diarrhea, suspected to be caused by a meal consisting of braised chicken, peanuts, braised mackerel, grilled pork with betel leaves, etc. at Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company.

On the morning of June 28, a representative of the Hai Phong Department of Health said that the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) had sent a document to the Department regarding the investigation and handling of the above food poisoning case.

According to initial investigation, at around 11:30 on June 27, after lunch at the company, many workers showed signs of rashes and red faces. At 12:30, many people started vomiting, had stomachaches and diarrhea.

After that, 127 workers showed signs of health instability and were transferred to Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong International General Hospital and An Duong District Medical Center. Of these, 7 people became more serious, with signs of rashes, cold sores, hematoma in the mucosa, feeling of nervousness, palpitations, dizziness…, and were treated at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital. . Doctors here diagnosed them with anaphylactic shock and treated them according to the regimen.

As of this morning, all patients are in stable health and continue to be monitored.

According to the workers, their lunch consisted of: braised chicken, fermented peanuts, braised mackerel, grilled lolot leaves, boiled squash, spinach soup, rice and watermelon. This food was divided into 2 menus, of which 400 servings had braised mackerel. The survey showed that most of the workers suspected of poisoning had eaten mackerel. Authorities suspect that this was the “culprit” causing the incident.

Lunch at Cam River Joint Stock Company was provided by Thanh Hung Service Company Limited in Dang Cuong commune, An Duong district. This unit was granted a certificate of food safety eligibility on June 13. Currently, the kitchen at the company is still operating normally.

Mr. Le Minh Quang, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Health, said officials have taken samples of the dishes for testing to find the cause of the incident, and are expected to make an announcement in the next few days.
