Global survey: What is the most popular aesthetic surgery in the world?

Want a change: A new international survey indicates an overall increase in aesthetic procedures around the world during the year 2023. According to the new survey, liposuction was the most common surgery, followed by breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, tummy tuck and breast contouring. Among the most popular aesthetic treatments, botulinum toxin injection was in first place with 8.8 million procedures performed by specialist doctors worldwide.

In second place was hyaluronic acid filling with about 5.5 million procedures in the world performed by doctors. After them, according to the degree of demand, hair removal treatments and skin tightening procedures using new technologies.

According to the new survey, a significant increase was observed in surgeries and treatments in the facial area, which increased by 19.6% compared to the previous year. The United States and Brazil performed the most procedures, with over 6.1 million and 3.3 million respectively. All types of facial surgery and treatments showed considerable growth from the previous year, with more than 6.5 million procedures.

The leading procedures were eyelids with more than 1.7 million and a 24% increase, rhinoplasty with 1.1 million procedures and a 21.6% increase, and lip enhancement procedures with 0.9 million and 29%. The survey also indicated the continuation of a growing trend of plastic surgery and aesthetic treatments among men, especially in the face area, which recorded an increase of 18% during the year 2023.

According to the survey, age plays a significant role in the popularity of specific procedures: most breast augmentation and nose reshaping surgeries around the world were performed among young women and men aged 18-34, who make up approximately 65.8% of all patients, while botulinum toxin injections were popular among women and men aged 35- 50 which make up about 49% of all patients.
