A 39-year-old woman went to the doctor due to complete loss of sexual desire, anxiety, severe stress, insomnia, and menstrual disorders.

For about a year now, the patient has had menstrual disorders, the interval between periods is irregular, menstruation occurs once every two months, the color of the period is dark red, the number of days of menstruation is shorter. The patient has completely lost desire, is afraid of intimacy with her husband, does not want to have sex, the frequency of intercourse is once a month.

On July 11, Dr. Pham Minh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Center for Gender Medicine, said that the patient was haunted by fear of love and had long-term insomnia, affecting his family life and work.

Gynecological examination results showed atrophied labia majora, thinned vagina, loss of thickness, loss of wrinkles, decreased secretion due to atrophied glands, and loss of acidic vaginal pH. The patient’s FSH level increased, indicating approaching menopause. The doctor concluded that the patient had decreased sexual desire in the premenopausal stage.

The doctor prescribed hormonal medication and exercise at least 4 times a week to relieve stress. The patient must adjust his diet and supplement foods such as soybeans, cereals, sunflower seeds, bean sprouts, etc.

According to doctors, sexual dysfunction includes decreased sexual desire, decreased arousal, decreased orgasm, and painful intercourse. Women may experience sexual dysfunction when entering perimenopause. At this time, the vaginal sebaceous glands secrete less, the vulva shrinks, causing pain.

It is estimated that in the 45-64 age group, one in eight people have decreased sexual desire and one in 15 people have arousal and orgasm disorders. In postmenopausal women, about 50-65% have decreased sexual desire with arousal disorders, 70% have orgasm disorders and pain during sex.

To improve this situation, doctors advise women to talk to their partners to improve their psychology. Next, women should spend time every day to exercise, move, eat nutritious food, and should not worry too much or torture themselves, forcing themselves to lose weight leading to eating disorders.

When you have abnormalities in your physical and sexual health, you should visit a medical facility and seek help from an obstetrician-gynecologist.
