Team order in favour of Norris in the World Championship fight

After a long wait, McLaren team boss Andrea Stella now to a team order in the final phase of the World Championship.

Until now, Lando Norris and Oscar Plates race against each other freely, but McLaren lost points for Norris in some races.

Piastri would give away victory

According to team boss Stella, the Australian would even give up what he thought was a sure victory. “It’s painful, but if it’s the right thing to do, then I’ll do it,” said Piastri. “I’m always impressed by how much teamwork and maturity they have,” the team boss praised his two drivers.

With eight races to go, Norris is 62 points behind leader Max Verstappen in the drivers’ standings. A maximum of 232 points are still up for grabs. If Norris crosses the finish line first in every Grand Prix and the three remaining sprint races, he would be the next Formula 1 World Champion.

However, if Norris loses too much ground to Verstappen in the near future, Piastri would no longer have to support his teammate. Then the only priority for McLaren would be the Constructors’ World Championship, which would be the first title for the British racing team since 1998. McLaren is currently eight points behind Red Bull.
