IOC Presidency: Who will succeed Thomas Bach?

Recently, Thomas Bach once again basked in the glory of the past Olympic summer. He was in Paris, the site of the games that finally brought the International Olympic Committee and its president the longed-for carpet of glitter pictures. Bach now accepted the city’s highest medal of honor from Mayor Anne Hidalgo, along with plenty of praise for how potently he leads his organization and how successful these summer games have been. Bach returned the favor by declaring Paris his second home, and indeed: While every game during his presidency from Sochi 2014 to Beijing 2022 was marked by doping, corruption scandals or corona-related issues, the Paris party was the first successful one – and the last in Bach’s term of office, which will officially end next June.
