Spain takes revenge on Argentina and reaches the women’s final of the World Hockey Championship

The men’s team will have a classic against Portugal in the semi-finals

The Spanish women’s roller hockey team defeated Argentina (1-4) to reach the final of the World Cup being held in the Italian city of Novara, while the men’s team beat Switzerland (7-0) on Friday to reach the semi-finals, where their eternal rival Portugal awaits them.

Spain, the most successful country in both categories at the World Cup, took another step towards new golds. Sergi Macià’s team dominated the Albiceleste from the opening whistle and went into the break with a 1-3 lead, which they increased shortly after the restart.

Two goals from Aina Florenza, plus goals from Sara Roces and Marta González, gave Spain a ticket to another final after losing two years ago to Argentina. Portugal or Italy, the duel in the second semi-final, will be the rival this Saturday for a Spanish team that is aiming for its eighth title.

Meanwhile, the men’s team qualified for the semi-finals with a formality against Switzerland. Spain, with three goals from Marc Grau, fulfilled its favoritism, just as Portugal did against France (4-2), to serve up a classic between the two most successful countries (17 and 16 titles), this Saturday in the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw, Argentina and Italy will be looking for the last step.
