Ricardo Ten also wins World Road gold

The Spanish cyclist Ricardo Ten won the gold medal this Friday in the road race of the World Championship being held in Zurich, signing the golden double after being world champion on Tuesday in the C1 class time trial.

The Valencian won his third World Championship on the road after a hard-fought sprint victory against the Polish Zbigniew Maciejewsk, which allowed him to leave Switzerland with two gold medals. Ten thus extended a great state of form that he showed a few weeks ago at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where he won three medals.

Ten, who has a total of 16 medals between the road and track disciplines, started as one of the favorites this Friday, after his performance in the time trial, but Maciejewski sold his skin dearly. They both escaped and rode the entire circuit together despite their attempts to escape.

The gold was decided in the sprint, with a first attack by the Pole 150 meters from the finish line and the response of a Ten who won in a tight finish. A rainbow jersey that shines again after the one achieved in 2022 in Baie Comeau.

On the other hand, in C2, Luis Arcega fought to get a bronze medal, after the Frenchman Leaute and the British Robertson had left at the beginning of the race, with the Frenchman being the winner of the event. Arcega remained in the pack until the last sprint, where he finally entered ninth position. In the tricycles, Joan Reinoso (T2) was sixth and Gonzalo García Abella (T1), fourth.
