Champions League: Soon against Bayern: Flick still sees potential for improvement

Hansi Flick also sees room for improvement at FC Barcelona after the convincing 5-0 win in the Champions League against Young Boys Bern. “We have to keep learning and developing,” said the Barça coach. “We have a number of very interesting opponents in front of us. I’m hungry for it, as are the players and the fans, which means we have to perform at our best level.”

The next opponent in the premier class is FC Bayern Munich on October 23rd, whom Flick coached from 2019 to 2021. In the league this month, Barcelona will play against arch-rivals Real Madrid, among others. It is still unclear who will be in goal. The signing of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a replacement for the seriously injured German international Marc-André ter Stegen is not yet official. Iñaki Peña played again against Bern.

Barça recently suffered its first defeat of the season in the Spanish Primera División. The Catalans surprisingly lost the first game in the new league phase of the Champions League 1-2 at AS Monaco.

The fact that Barça has now done something for its goal difference with the clear win against Bern made former national coach Flick happy. “Nobody knows exactly how this new Champions League will work and what we will need, but it is always good to have a good goal difference, just in case,” he said. Former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the Catalans’ 5-0 win.
