Senegal parted ways with long-time coach Cissé

After almost ten years in office, Aliou Cissé is no longer head coach of Senegal’s national football team. The Senegalese football association FSF justified the separation on its website, among other things, with recently missed goals and the general dissatisfaction of the supporters with the team’s performances. In the current World Cup qualification, Senegal is in second place in Group B with eight points after four games.

The former midfielder Cissé (48) had trained the “Teranga Lions” since 2015 and also stepped in as interim coach in 2012. He also acted as assistant coach of the national team from 2012 to 2015, for which he appeared 33 times as a professional. As coach, Cissé led the team to triumph at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and two World Cup finals.
