Football: France increases its lead over the Netherlands in the UEFA index ranking

With three victories, a draw and two defeats, the French clubs have an acceptable record at the end of the European week. PSG and Nice certainly lost, respectively against Arsenal (2-0) and Lazio (4-1), but these setbacks are offset by the successes of Brest, Lille, and OL, as well as by the draw of Monaco. With 1 point scored in the UEFA index, France, 5th, is doing better in particular than the Netherlands, 6th, 0.833 points scored.

In the Champions League, PSV Eindhoven conceded a 1-1 draw against Sporting, while Feyenoord won 3-2 against Girona. In the Europa League, Ajax could not do better than a 1-1 draw at Slavia Prague, likewise Twente, 1-1 against Fenerbahçe. Alkmaar for its part fell to Athletic Bilbao, 2-0.

The top 4 out of reach

France totals 61,379 points, compared to 56,566 in the Netherlands. Portugal, 7th, has gained ground this week, but, with 53.016 points, remains a distance from the two nations ahead of it.

In the first places, Spain, 3rd, is marking time with a meager 0.571 point, while England, first, Italy, 2nd, and Germany, 4th, have done well with respectively + 1.857 points, + 1 .25 points and +1.375 points.

As a result, the gap grows between the top 4 and France, Germany, 4th, totaling 74, 285 points, almost 13 points ahead.

A nation’s UEFA index is calculated based on club performance. In the initial phase, in the three European competitions, victory earns two points and a draw, one point. The cumulative total of clubs is then divided by the number of clubs initially entered in all competitions. Thus, the points obtained each week by France are divided by seven, while Lens was eliminated in the Conference League play-offs and there are, therefore, only six French clubs likely to score points.
